BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION REGISTERED NURSE APPRECIATION DAY

WHEREAS:

Some 11 7,000 registered nurses (RNs) in Georgia comprise our state's largest health care profession, successfully meeting the varied and emerging health care needs of Georgia's population in a wide range of settings; and

WHEREAS:

Organizations like the Georgia Nurses Association work diligently to keep the people of our state healthy, placing an emphasis on primary and preventive care; and

WHEREAS:

Professional nursing is an indispensable component in the safety and quality of care for patients. The demand for registered nursing services will continue to increase due to the exponential growth of the state's aging population, the continuing development of life-sustaining technology, the expansion of home health services, and the increasing need for primary care services; and

WHEREAS:

More qualified registered nurses are needed to meet the increasingly complex needs of patients and consumers. Nurses can and should play a fundamental role in the transformation of the U.S. health care system; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim january 30, 2014, as REGISTERED NURSE APPRECIATION DAY in Georgia and encourage our citizens to express their appreciation for the valuable services nurses perform daily for the people of our state.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 28th day of january in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
