BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
RED RIBBON WEEK
WHEREAS:
Alcohol and other drug abuse in this nation has reached epidemic proportions; and
WHEREAS:
It is imperative that visible, unified prevention education efforts by community members be launched to eliminate the demand for drugs; and
WHEREAS :
The National Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in every community in America during Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31; and
WHEREAS :
Business, government, parents, law enforcement, media, medical professionals, religious institutions, schools, senior c1t1zens, service organizations and youth will demonstrate their commitment to healthy, drugfree lifestyles by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign; and
WHEREAS:
Reducing drug and alcohol abuse is a high priority in Georgia and we are proud to recognize our Red Ribbon Campaign, which has received national recognition as one of the most visible and effective drug awareness programs; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 23-31, 2012, as RED RIBBON WEEK in Georgia and encourage our citizens to show their support and commitment to a drug-free state.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 14th day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve.
