A PROCLAMATION
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES DAY
WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:
Family and consumer sciences is the comprehensive body of research and knowledge designed to help people make informed decisions about their well-being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life; and
Policy makers, education administrators, and the public require an understand ing of the scope of family and consumer sciences and its direct relevance to serious societal concerns today such as obesity, food safety, and financial literacy; and
Federal and state legislation strongly influence the allocation of funds for family and consumer sciences education, as well as admin istrative and curricular structure at all levels; and
Access to family and consumer sciences education in m iddle schools, hig h schools, and institutions of higher education across the nation is increasingly at risk due to severe budget constraints and curricular priorities on math, science, and traditional academic subjects; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim February 26, 2013 as FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES DAY in Georgia and commend organizations such as the Georgia Associat ion of Fam ily and Consumer Sciences for their research and education i nvolving modern socioeconomic issues present throughout Georgia and our nation.
