A PROCLAMATION
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

This year over 1,000 women in Georgia wil l die of breast cancer and over 5,000 will be diagnosed with the disease; and
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for ' women in the United States; and
The efforts of various organizations around Georgia have made major contributions to spreading breast cancer awareness to both women and men in all communities through outreach, education, and screening programs, and have empowered women with the life- saving message of early detection and the importance of having annual mammograms; and
Breast Cancer Prevention and Awareness Month is an opportunity to unite all citizens of Georgia in an effort to prevent breast cancer deaths through increased education and regular screening; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 2012, as BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH and urge all Georgia residents to join the fight against cancer.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 1 st day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve.
