A PROCLAMATION
75TH ANNIVERSARY OF GEICO IN MACON

Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) was formally chartered on September 1, 1936, by Leo Goodwin and Cleaves Rhea to se ll automobi le insurance by direct mail to government employees and top ranking non - commissioned mil itary personne l; and
GEICO and the citizens of Georgia have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship since GEICO opened its Macon office on june, 11 1973; and
GEICO is a responsible corporate citizen of the Bibb County community and surrounding areas, and has provided Georgia citizens with the utmost in customer care for decades, ensuring that they are adequately protected w ith the proper automobile, homeowner, motorcycle or any appl icable Powersports insurance; and
GEICO began w ith 22 associates when the Macon office opened in 1973 and has grown to more than 4,500 associates locally and over 25,000 associates country-wide. Currently, there are two reg ional offices as we ll as Centralized Services for the entire company in Macon ; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Govern or of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim April 19, 2011, as the 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF GEICO in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 12th day of Apri l in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven .
