A proclamation: Purple Day, Mar. 26, 2011

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

WHEREAS:

A PROCLAMATION PURPLE DAY
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, estimated to affect over 50 million people worldwide and over 3 million people in the United States; and

WHEREAS:

One in ten people w ill have at least one seizure during his or her lifetime ; and

WHEREAS:

The public is often unable to recognize common seizure types, or know how to respond with appropriate first aid; now

WHEREAS:

Purple Day is an effort dedicated to promoting epilepsy awareness in countries around the world in order to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and improve the quality of life for people with epilepsy throughout our nation and the world ; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim March 26, 2011 as PURPLE DAY and urge all citizens to raise their awareness about epilepsy.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 26th day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven.
