BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK

The U.S. Departments of State and Education have declared November 1418, 2011, as International Education Week in observance of the many important contributions of international education to our nation; and
International educational exchange involves thousands of programs, public and private, campus-based and national, that promote the sharing of ideas and experiences across borders. These consist of study abroad programs, citizen and scholarly exchanges, foreign students on U.S. campuses, foreign language studies and global approaches to U.S. education; and
By participating in such programs our young people develop a greater appreciation and respect for other cultures. These experiences help to break down barriers and build understanding and cooperation, both vital to peace and prosperity; and
We live in an increasingly interconnected world and improving global literacy among our citizens contributes significantly to our nation's foreign policy, economic competitiveness and national security; and
The state of Georg ia encourages the citizens and institutions of this state, as beneficiaries of international education , to recognize its importance in their communities; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 14-18, 2011, as INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed th is 24th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven .
