A PROCLAMATION
FOOD DAY
It's important that citizens of the State of Georgia look after themselves and do what they can lead healthy lives . Reducing obesity and diet-related diseases by promoting safe and healthy diets is a critical factor in improving citizens' overall health; and
Curbing junk-food marketing aimed at children is vitally important in order to combat rising obesity rates and raise a generation of healthy children; and
Expanding access to food and helping to end hunger is also of critical importance, especially to those who struggle to obtain healthy portions on a daily basis; and
Food Day is also a time to recognize the importance that local agriculture offers to the state - not only for its provision of healthy, quality food, but also for its impact on Georgia's economy; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 24, 2011, as FOOD DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 19th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven.
