A proclamation: Adoption Month, Oct. 19, 2011

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION ADOPTION MONTH

WHEREAS:

Every child deserves to grow up in a loving and nurturing family, with adults to help guide them to a happy and productive life; and

WHEREAS:

State and private agencies work to unite children and adults through the process of adoption, thus creating new families for thousands of children in Georgia each year; and

WHEREAS :

Many Georgia families make room in their hearts and their homes for children of all ages, providing a warm, secure and loving atmosphere for children to thrive and realize their potential; and

WHEREAS:

The Georgia Department of Human Services' Division of Family and Children Services is at the forefront in the effort to promote adoption and was instrumental in finding families for more than 1,200 children in 201 0 ; and

WHEREAS :

Despite the many adoption success stories, there are still hundreds of Georgia children that are waiting for permanent families so they, too, can have the guidance and security of a home of their own; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 2011 as ADOPTION MONTH in Georgia, with November 19 as ADOPTION DAY, and encourage our citizens to honor adoptive families and to remember Georgia's children who need and deserve loving families of their own.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 19th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven.
