A PROCLAMATION
CONFLICT RESOLUTION DAY

WHEREAS:

Conflict resolution, or alternative dispute resolution, encourages nonviolent dispute resolution outside of the courtroom. Conflict resolution encompasses mediation, arbitration, conc il iation and other formal and informal responses to conflict; and

WHEREAS:

Conflict resolution can be used to solve al most any type of d ispute and is i ncreas ingly used i n schools and commun it ies to reduce violence and teach children and youth how to so lve problems w ith others; and

WHEREAS:

The conflict reso lution process empowers ind ividuals, organizations and families to foster communication and devise sol utions that are tai lored to the ir particular needs and i nterests; and

WHEREAS:

The Association fo r Conflict Resolution, including its Georgia chapter, works to encourage the practice and understanding of conflict resolution and wants to promote awareness of conflict reso lution methods and educate the public about the benefits of t hese methods; and

WHEREAS:

The State of Georg ia is pleased to recogn ize the practitioners of conflict resolution and encourage our citizens to fully utilize the practice; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the state of Georgia, do hereby proclai m October 20, 20 11, as CONFLICT RESOLUTION DAY in Georgia.
