THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:
FLAGS ON ALL STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF
WHEREAS:
Seventeen years ago on September 11, 2001, our great nation was struck by tragedy when thousands of our own were senselessly lost at the behest of a hateful and barbaric ideal. These cowardly attacks on our nation targeted the God-given and inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and claimed the lives of 2,977 men, women, and children; and
WHEREAS: Our nation and the world were forever changed by these heartless acts. We can never replace those who perished, and we will continue to lift up the families and friends of those who were lost on that fateful day; and
WHEREAS:
On the anniversary of this event, we the citizens of the United States of America honor, grieve for, and remember those who were lost. For their innocent sacrifice, we owe those individuals a time of reflection. In their memory, we must continue to uphold the precedence of a United States committed to securing the lives and freedoms of its people in the face of others who would try to destroy our American way of life; and
WHEREAS: We must continue to remember in our prayers the men and women of our armed forces stationed around the world, who bravely and vigilantly protect us from future terroristic threats to our country; and
WHEREAS: To memorialize this day in our nation's history, the Congress of the United States passed by joint resolution Public Law 107-89 on December 18, 2001, which designates September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."
NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the State of Georgia recognize Tuesday, September 11, 2018, as Patriot Day by flying the American Flag and the flag of the State of Georgia at half-
staff on all state buildings and grounds. I also encourage all Georgians to display both flags at half-staff from their homes and businesses.
IT IS FURTHER
ORDERED:
That all Georgians are called upon to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46a.m. eastern daylight time to honor and remember the innocent lives lost, to pray for the victims' families and loved ones, and to salute the brave men and women who continue to protect our freedom.
