THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER

BY THE GOVERNOR:

WHEREAS: Ms. Janet Royal, a member of the Wayne County Board of Education, was indicted on June 6, 2018, on two felony counts of Theft by Taking; and

WHEREAS: The indictment was transmitted to the Office of the Governor pursuant to O.C.G.A. 45-5-6(b), and the certified copy was received on June 18, 2018; and

WHEREAS:

On July 18, 2018, a review commission composed of Attorney General Chris Carr; Jefferson City Schools Board of Education member, Ronald Hopkins; and Jefferson County Board of Education member, Teresa Brooks, was appointed to determine whether the indictment related to or adversely affected the administration of the office of Wayne County Board of Education member by Ms. Royal; and

WHEREAS: Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 45-5-6(e), Ms. Royal has voluntarily authorized her suspension as a member of the Wayne County Board of Education.

NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GoVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That Ms. Janet Royal, member of the Wayne County Board of Education, is hereby suspended from office immediately and without further action pending the final disposition of the case or until the expiration of her term of office, whichever occurs first, as provided in O.C.G.A. 45-5-6(c).
