THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:

FLAGS ON STATE CAPITOL BUILDING AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS:

Georgia can boast of its native son, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister, founder ofthe Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and a man who inspired our nation with his dream of hope, justice, and human rights. His legacy is a tme point of pride for our state; and

WHEREAS:

Dreamers often have many ideas, but may come up shott on results. That cannot be said of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who had perhaps the most famous dream in the history of our great nation. We rtmst admire the audacity of a man who risked and ultimately lost his life on April 4, 1968, because he would not sacrifice his dream; and

WHEREAS:

On Monday, April 9, 2018, in commemoration of the soth Anniversary of the
assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we band together to stand, pray, and "March for Humanity" in an effott to, as Dr. King said, "transform dark yesterdays into bright tomonows."

Now, THEREFORE, IN HONOR OF AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. AND IN SUPPORT OF THE "MARCH FOR HUMANITY", PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That the flag ofthe United States and the flag of the Great State of Georgia shall be
flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and grounds on Monday, April 9,
2018, in commemoration of the soth Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Mattin
Luther King, Jr. and in support of the "March for Humanity."
