THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:
WHEREAS: On September 7, 2017, due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irma to the state of Georgia as forecasted by the National Hurricane Center, I declared a State of Emergency and mandatorily evacuated all citizens East of I-95; and
WHEREAS:
Due to the updated National Hurricane Center forecast, through its five (5) day cone model, Hurricane Irma's track has shifted and may potentially produce excessive rainfall and damaging winds, causing extensive flooding, fallen trees and the closure of numerous roads in more central and western portions ofthe state; and
WHEREAS:
Chatham County's phased evacuation zones Band Care primarily at higher elevations than its coastline and provides a sufficient area to stage resources and necessary first responders preparing to serve the coast of Georgia in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma; and
WHEREAS:
The authority is vested in the Governor by virtue of O.C.G.A. 38-3-51 to issue reasonable orders, rules and regulations deemed necessary to protect public h ealth, safety and welfare, and bring the emergency situation under control within the acknowledged limitations of the powers of the Governor.
NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANf TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That Chatham County's evacuation zones B and C be voluntarily evacuated. All other evacuation orders remain in effect.
IT IS FURTHER
ORDERED: That contraflow operations on Interstate 16 cease at 4:00p.m. today, September 9, 2017.
This Executive Order shall be valid for a period of twelve (12) days, beginning on September 9, 2017, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on September 21, 2017.
