THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:

FLAGS ON ALL STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF

WHEREAS:

Sixteen years ago, on September 11, 2001, our great nation was attacked by evil radical extremists that stole the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children; and

WHEREAS:

On this September 11 mmiversary, it is our duty as citizens of the United States of America to honor and remember the lives of those who perished and to grieve with the fmnilies and friends of the loved ones left behind; and

WHEREAS:

As we remember the events of September 11, 2001, we must commemorate the acts of bravery, courage, and compassion shown by our nation's first responders, firefighters, police officers, and by-standers who all came together to offer assistance during the wake of this tragedy; m1d

WHEREAS:

We must also salute the patriotism of our men and women of the armed forces, stationed around the world, who relentlessly defend the United States of America and protect us, as citizens, against future attacks; and

WHEREAS:

To honor the memories of those who lost their lives and memorialize this day, the United States Congress passed by joint resolution, on December 18, 2001, Public Law 107-89 designating September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That the State of Georgia recognize Monday, September 11, 2017, as Patriot Day by flying the American Flag m1d the flag of the State of Georgia at half-staff on all state buildings a11d grounds. I also encourage all Georgia11s to display both flags at half-staff from their homes and businesses.

IT IS FURTHER

ORDERED:

That all Georgians are called upon to observe a moment of silence begilming at 8:46a.m. eastern daylight time to honor and remember the ilmocent lives lost, to pray for the victims' families and loved ones, and to salute the brave men and women who continue to protect our freedom.
