Executive order, 2015 April 21

THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:

FLAGS ON STATE CAPITOL BUILDING AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS: The Honorable Pete Wheeler, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Veterans Service from 1954 to 2015, passed away on Tuesday, April21, 2015; and

WHEREAS: Mr. Wheeler was a great, American patriot having served in the Army Infantry between 1942 and 1946 and continued to serve in the Georgia Army National Guard until July 1978 when he retired as a Brigadier General; and

WHEREAS:

Mr. Wheeler's dedication to his brothers and sisters in uniform is evidenced by his much decorated work to support veterans. Pete was inducted into the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Silver Helmet Award, presented by AMVETS; recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Silver and Gold Medals of Merit; recipient of the Patrick Henry Award, presented by the National Guard Association of the United States; and many other honors and accolades; and

WHEREAS: It is fitting and proper to remember and honor Pete Wheeler for his dedicated service to our state.

NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF PETE WHEELER, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia shall be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and grounds on Monday, April 27, 2015, the day of his interment, until sunset.
