THE STATE OF GEORGIA

EXECUTIVE ORDER

BY THE GOVERNOR:
WHEREAS:

As a result of the impact and damages of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, specific authorization to lift certain restrictions for commercial truck tractor semi-trailer and other types of motor vehicles is warranted; and

WHEREAS:

It is requested that the State of Georgia allow vehicles transporting emergency temporary housing, equipment and supplies by or on behalf of the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, to travel on pre-approved state maintained roadways unless sustaining a posted bridge, to issue and provide permits for travel; and

WHEREAS:

Authorization of the Georgia Department of Transportation to issue permits accommodating the movement of vehicles and loads as stated above with coordination and cooperation from law enforcement of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division is warranted;

NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That weight, height, length and width for any such vehicle on
roadways maintained by the State of Georgia shall not exceed the following:

(A) A maximum gross vehicle weight for vehicles equipped with five (5) weight-bearing axles with outer bridge spans of not less than fifty-one (51) feet shall not exceed a gross weight of ninety-five (95) thousand pounds, a height of fourteen (14) feet, a width of fourteen (14) feet, and a length of one hundred (100) feet long. Travel is limited to daylight hours only beginning thirty (30) minutes after sunrise and ending thirty (30) minutes before sunset.

(B) Transporters are responsible for ensuring they have proper permits, oversize signs, markings, flags and escorts as defined in the Georgia Department of Transportation Rules and Regulations (GDOT Rule 672-2-.06 and 672-2-.07).
Permits may be issued by the Georgia Department of Transportation, Oversize Permit Unit, during normal business hours from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday by calling 1-800-570-5428.
This Executive Order shall be valid until November 30, 2005.
