The 2000 Georgia General Assembly passed Senate Bdl 440, which IS to be known as the Geowa Medical Canter Author@ Act, and which Act created the Georgia MedIcal Center Author@ to promote blomedlcal and blotechmcal research and to advance state and local economx growth, and
The Georga Medical Center Author@ was created under the Georgia Mexhcal Center Author@ Act m order to provide, m cooperation with the board of regents, blomedlcal and blotechmcal research centers, fac~htles and programs based rn Augusta, Georgra, and to promote the retention and recnutment of tramed chmcal faculty at the Medical College of Georgia, to promote the uxnmerclallzatlon of blome&aJ and blote-chmcal research results and provide for sustamed researchfundmg from revenues i?om hcensed and commerclahzed mtellectual property, and to promote closer ties between academic mstltutlons and the blomedxal Industry m order to cap~tahzeon state mtellectual resources, among other purposes, and
Senate Bdl 440 provides that the Georgia Medical Center Author@ shall COnsEtof fifteen members, eleven of whom shall be appomted by the Governor, and which brll was signed by me on April 17, 2000, as Act 501 and became effectwe July 1.2000,
