THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:
WHEREAS: It has been generally recognized that health care administration by state government in Georgia is fragmented, inasmuch as the responsibility for health care planning, policy, purchasing and regulation has been spread among many different agencies; and
WHEREAS:
The 1999 Georgia General Assembly determined that, in order to respond to the complex and rapidly changing nature of health care services, a new state agency should be created which would combine the diverse health care functions of state government and that such agency should serve as the lead planning agency for all health issues in the state; and
WHEREAS:
The 1999 Georgia General Assembly passed Senate Bill 24 1, creating the Department of Community Health and combining within its duties and responsibilities the health care services responsibilities of several other state agencies, most notably the Department of Medical Assistance, which was abolished; and
WHEREAS:
The purpose of the Department of Community Health is to create better coordination of state health care services, to minimize duplication of effort, to maximize administrative efficiency and purchasing power, and to develop a better and more responsive health care infrastructure; and
WHEREAS: Senate Bill 24 1 provides that the Department of Community Health shall be governed by a Board of Community Health consisting of nine members, and which bill was signed by me on April 19, 1999, as Act 268 and became effective July 1, 1999;
NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, lT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That, in accordance with Senate Bill 241, the following named persons be and they are hereby appointed as members of the Board of Community Health to serve
