THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:
WHEREAS:
The General Assembly found and declared through the "Georgia Emergency Telephone Number '911' Service Act of 1977" that it was in the public interest to shorten the time required for a citizen to request and receive emergency assistance and undertook to provide for a single, primary three-digit emergency telephone number through which law enforcement, fire, medical, rescue and other emergency services could be quickly and efficiently obtained throughout the state; and
WHEREAS:
In 1998, the General Assembly recognized that the benefits of "911" service should be widely available, regardless of whether a "911" call is placed from traditional landline telephones or from a wireless telephone, and that wireless telephone service should be brought within the scope of the provisions of the original Act; and
WHEREAS: The General Assembly further determined that the administration of the Act falls most appropriately within the duties of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, and;
WHEREAS:
The Emergency Telephone Number Committee was created by the Act in 1977 and recreated by the 1998 General Assembly as the "911" Advisory Committee under the provisions of Senate Bill 572, and which bill was signed by me as Governor and shall become effective on July 1, 1998 as Act 881; and
WHEREAS: Senate Bill 572 provides that the Governor shall appoint ten members to the "911" Advisory Committee;
NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the following named persons be and they are hereby appointed as members of the "911" Advisory Committee to serve at the pleasure of the Governor:
