THE STATE OF GEORGIA

EXECUTIVE ORDER

BY THE GOVERNOR:

WHEREAS

Title I of the lfMental Retardation Facilities and Community Health Centers Act of 1963," 42 U S C 6000, et. seg. as amended was enacted to assist states in assuring that persons with developmental disabilities receive the services and have the opportunities necessary to enable them to achieve their maximum potential, and

WHEREAS

Said Act provides that any state desiring to take advantage of such federal assistance must have a state plan submitted to and approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and that such plan must provide for the establishment of a State Developmental Disabilities Council in accordance with 42 U S C 6024, and

WHEREAS

By Executive Order dated December 10, 1971, the State Planning and Advisory Council for Developmental Disabilities Services and Construction was created and established, and

WHEREAS

By Executive Order dated August 10, 1989 the State Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities was renamed the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, and

WHEREAS

By Executive Order dated June 5, 1996 the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities was reestablished and whereby the membership was reduced from thirty to twenty-three members,

NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
That the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, heretofore created, be and the same is hereby reestablished in order to institute a system of staggered term expirations and for other purposes, and that said Council shall maintain the same functions and duties specified for such a council in 42 U S C 6022 and 6024, and

IT IS FURTHER

ORDERED
