EXECUTIVE ORDER

'JMkiarchof 1995, the Georgia Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia adopted a Pre-School through College (P-16) Policy Direction which is intended to ihnqg higher education into full partnership with school districts, technical institutes,
community groups that are working toward comprehensive and systemic dteBUonal reform from preschool through post-secondary levels, and

WHEREAS

6 reform initiative requires the collaborative efforts of state and local

'educational agencies, public and private institutions and business and industry throughout our state, and

/ WHEREAS < The, Georgia P.-l 6 Council was originally established by executive order on July 26,

199&tojBOvide state-level coordination and leadership and to report to the Governor

aitdtthe [heads of the three state supported educational systems in Georgia which are

the Commissioner of the Department of Technical and Adult Education, the State

School Superintendent, and the Chancellor of the University System, and

WHEREAS It \$ appropriate to expand the membership of the Council to encompass a broader range ofrepresentation from educational entities, agencies, and business and industry,

NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED That the Georgia P-16 Council is hereby reestablished with the same duties and

responsibilities heretofore delegated to the Council by said Executive Order dated July

'' 26, 1996, except that the Council shall report to the Governor and the heads of the four

state supported educational systems in Georgia which are the Commissioner of the

Department of Technical and Adult Education, the State School Superintendent, the
