THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:
WHEREAS: The state and federal governments have traditionally been the major supporters of graduate medical education through funding provided in the Medicaid program; and
WHEREAS: It is conservatively estimated that the Medicaid program nationally paid $1 billion in federal fiscal year 1995 to teaching hospitals for medical education support; and
WHEREAS: It is recognized that managed care organizations and private businesses are not contributing sufficient funding and resources towards graduate medical education; and
WHEREAS:
In recognition of the need for changes in the manner in which medical education
costs are reimbursed, the 1997 General Assembly passed House Resolution 249, creating the Graduate Medical Education Study Commission, and which resolution was signed by me as Governor and became effective on April 4, 1997 as Resolution Act4; and
WHEREAS: House Resolution 249 provides that the Governor shall appoint ten members to the Graduate Medical Education Study Commission, one of whom shall be designated as chairperson of the Commission;
NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the following named persons be and they are hereby appointed as members of the Graduate Medical Education Study Commission.
