THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER

BY THE GOVERNOR:

WHEREAS: The buildings formerly known as 1650 Stewart Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia need to be removed; and

WHEREAS:

In the opinion of Mr. Douglas H. Rewerts, Vice Chancellor for Facilities of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, these buildings can no longer be advantageously used by Atlanta Metropolitan College or the University System of Georgia and should be demolished and removed; and

WHEREAS:

The Board of Regents at its meeting on May 7 and 8, 1996, declared by resolution that said buildings could no longer be used advantageously in the University System and that the demolition and removal of said buildings is in the best interest of the institution and the University System of Georgia; and

WHEREAS:

Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Section 20-3-60(a), authorizes all properties owned or held by the Board of Regents which have been declared to be the public property of the state to be disposed of by the Board of Regents, subject to the approval of the Governor; and

WHEREAS: I concur in the aforesaid declaration of the Board of Regents and approve the demolition and removal of the buildings as set forth above.

NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, PARTICULARLY BY VIRTUE OF THE PROVISIONS OF THE AFORESAID ACT, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That the appropriate staff of the Atlanta Metropolitan College, acting under the approval of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, be directed to have said buildings demolished and to have all building materials removed from the premises by public works contract; all said demolition and, if applicable, removal to be performed as expeditiously as possible.
