AT&T to donate 5,000 books to First Lady Deal's Read Across Georgia initiative

First Lady Sandra Deal will join Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning Commissioner Bobby Cagle and AT&T Georgia President Sylvia Russell on Monday, March 19, at 1 p.m. at Dunwoody Springs Elementary School as part of her "Read Across Georgia" campaign. At the event, Russell will announce AT&T Georgia's plan to donate 5,000 copies of the book "Who I'd Like to Be" to preschool students across the state through a $20,000 contribution. Deal and Cagle will read the book to students and emphasize the importance of being reading-proficient.

Launched earlier this month, "Read Across Georgia" echoes Gov. Nathan Deal's goal of increasing the percentage of children reading at grade level by the completion of third grade. The governor proclaimed March "Read Across Georgia" month in honor of this initiative.

The First Lady's goal is to visit every school district across the state over the next three years.
