2019 Legislative Session Convenes
The House and Senate officially convened on Monday, January 14th for the first day of the 2019 Legislative Session. The day was filled with official activities, such as the swearing-in of Governor Brian Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, as well as members of the House and Senate, which included 40 newly elected members.
The House elected David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) as Speaker of the House and also elected Representative Jan Jones (R-Milton) as Speaker Pro Tempore. Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan will preside over the Senate. Butch Miller (R-Gainesville) was elected to serve as President Pro Tempore the Senate.

Governor Brian Kemp gives State of the State Address

Governor Brian Kemp gave his first State of the State Address as members of the House and Senate convened for a joint session on Thursday, January 17th, at 11AM. Governor Kemp welcomed members to the 2019 Legislative Session and highlighted his proposals for the upcoming year.

New House and Senate Committees
The 2019 Legislative Session brings several changes to the membership of Legislative Committees in the General Assembly. Representative Tommy Benton (R- Jefferson) will now Chair the House Retirement Committee. Senator Ellis Black (R-Valdosta) will continue to serve as the Senate Retirement Committee Chair.
