Standards Based Learning Conference Call - Monday, April 16, 2006, 8 - 9 a.m.
Curriculum & Instructional Services will host a conference call on Monday, April 16, at 8:00 a.m. to update you on items discussed by the State Board of Education and other ongoing issues. Staff from the Standards Based Instruction Division of the Georgia Department of Education will be on hand to answer your questions and concerns. I encourage you to participate in this call if at all possible. RESAs and Systems are encouraged to include all Curriculum and Instruction administrators and CTAE directors and supervisors in this conference call (only one line per system/RESA). The table with the proposed changes was sent in the last newsletter. This attached table contains the same information, but it reflects that all proposals were accepted and have been approved by the SBOE. It is our intent to provide title and numbering changes required with the Phase II revision in a timelier manner. Hopefully, this information will be available by the end of 2007.

Perkins IV Transition Plan - Georgia's Transition Plan for the Perkins Career and Technical Improvement Act of 2006 for Program Year 2007-2008
The transition plan created collaboratively with GDOE and the Department of Technical and Adult Education was adopted by the SBOE. The framework is based on the requirements in the Act providing for a strengthened connection between secondary and post-secondary education to ensure all students will achieve challenging academic and technical standards and be prepared for high-skill, high-wage, or high-demand occupations in current or emerging professions. The Executive Summary is attached.

Phase II Pathways - Phase II Curriculum Drafts Posted for Public Review The Phase II curriculum drafts were posted April 12 for a sixty day period of public review. Please encourage participation in reviewing the curriculum drafts and completing the accompanying survey. It is accessible through GeorgiaStandards.org or our CTAE homepage. GPS Training
As of Monday morning April 9, 2007, all workshops for the Phase I Curriculum Roll-Out were posted on the CTAE Resource Network. The Pathways that were posted are as follows: Marketing and Transportation Logistical Operations & Support. The following pathway workshops are still in the construction phase and the moment dates and locations are secured, you will be notified with another e-mail : Engineering
In order for your CTAE Instructor to be registered they MUST go to www.ctaern.org and click on Professional Development, and then log-in using their new CTAE Resource Network Password. If they have not completed the new password process there is information provided at that screen to help them secure there new log-in. Once in the registration portal you will see a list of all concentration areas and at the bottom of the list you will find a listing for Phase I Roll-Out Workshops.
Once inside the workshop posting area, please pay attention to the following information as you make your workshop selection: Each and every pathway will have their own specific training events, do not sign up for an event if you do not teach in that pathway.

As you preview the workshop listing remember to make your selection based on three areas, (Pathway, Location & Date). For some pathways there are multiple locations on the same day. Do not delay your registration in hopes that there will be other posting for these pathways. As of this date these are all of the events that will be offered for these pathways. Course numbers will use the following format Agriscience - GPSAGR
Computing - GPSCOM Small Business Development - GPSSBD Therapeutic Nursing GPSTN Marketing GPSMKR Transportation - GPSAUT Each workshop has a maximum seating capacity and the registration for that event will be cut off when the registration meets capacity. The registration for each event is set up on a first come first serve basis. The registration portal for each event will be closed one week prior to the event. Any problems experienced with the CTAE Resource Network registration process should be forwarded to 866-454-2823. Once the workshop has been filled the site trainers will communicate with the participants and give instructions about the event and what they can do to be better prepared.
Update on the March and April 2007 CTAE Regional Spring Update Sessions The 2007 CTAE Regional Spring Update Workshops, held at Red Top Mountain, Tifton, Macon, Jesup, Dublin, and Athens on March 27 through April 12, 2007, respectively, have now been completed.
The well-attended sessions provided timely and up-to-date information on the future direction and trends for Career, Technical and Agricultural Education to over 360 CTAE Administrators and other administrative staff members! CTAE Administrators left with information on topics ranging from the new Perkins IV legislation to the new on-line CTAE grant application, including CTE Extended Day, Perkins IV (Local Plan), and other federal and state CTAE grants.
In conjunction with the CTAE Administrator Spring Update Sessions, six separate Career/Guidance Workshop Sessions were held across the state from March 27 through April 12, 2007. Under the workshop title "What's New in CTAE," high school and middle school guidance counselors were given an overview of CTAE future trends and career pathway information. Over 280 guidance counselors attended the well-planned sessions.
FY 2008 Local Plan Regional Technical Assistance Workshops Workshop Emphasis: Technical Assistance with the new on-line FY 2008 Perkins IV Grant (Local Plan), CTAE State Grants, and Agriculture Grants.
At the upcoming Local Plan Regional Technical Assistance Workshops, CTAE DOE Accountability Staff, CTAE Regional Coordinators, and the Agriculture Regional

Coordinators will provide detailed information to CTAE Directors, Consolidated Application Coordinators, and system financial personnel who will be completing FY 2008 CTAE and Agriculture Local Plans.

System CTAE Administrators are strongly encouraged to attend one of these "FY 2008 Local Plan Regional Technical Assistance Workshops."

If the CTAE Administrator would like to attend and has not already registered for one of the technical assistance workshops, please register on the CTAE Resource Network at www.ctaern.org.
