November 14, 2011 -- State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge, Mitchell Chester, Massachusetts Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education, Robert Hammond, Colorado Commissioner of Education, and Mike Grego, Special Assistant to the Commissioner in Florida today spoke about their state applications and the implications of the waivers on state policies and practice at a Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) forum. Gene Wilhoit, CCSSO Executive Director moderated the conversation.
Several states will submit applications to the U.S. Department of Education today seeking waivers of certain provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). These waivers will allow states the flexibility to develop stronger accountability and teacher evaluation systems, and provide relief from current provisions preventing states moving forward with reform.
The briefing will be recorded and webcast here (http://kzosites.com/statewaivers/) at 3pm Eastern, Monday November 14. CCSSO senior associate, Kirsten Taylor will moderate the webcast from 3-4pm, November 14.
