GaDOE to Host Screening of The Fat Boy Chronicles
Panel discussion about obesity and bullying to follow

October 25, 2011 -- The Georgia Department of Education is hosting a screening of the The Fat Boy Chronicles, an extraordinary look into the day-to-day life of an obese teenager who decides to stop the abuse and ridicule he gets at school. Georgia is second in the nation in childhood obesity. While schools cannot solve the obesity problem, they can help students adopt new ways to promote healthy eating habits and bullying prevention.

Who: Educators and Administrators from metro Atlanta middle schools. The panel immediately following

the screening will include:

- State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge

- Diane Lang and Michael Buchanan, Co-authors of The Fat Boy Chronicles

- Therese McGuire, GaDOE Health and Physical Education Program Specialist

- Dr. Garry McGiboney, Associate Superintendent of Policy and Charter Schools

- Dr. Stephanie Walsh, Medical Director of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

- Jason Winn, Director of The Fat Boy Chronicles
