PEACHBYTE February 9, 2021
New Research Co-Op Opportunity and Resources
A letter from Ashley Barfield, director of tourism research:
As we pass a somber milestone - one year into the COVID-19 pandemic - I've spent nearly half my tenure as the Director of Tourism Research for Explore Georgia working during one of the greatest crises travel and tourism have faced.
Yet, despite the difficulties we all continue to encounter, the industry has come together to meet these challenges head-on. And, if there is one positive that has come from this hardship, it's the enormous amount of new research now available to our industry. These resources not only allow us to monitor the industry impact, but will guide us through and beyond recovery.
Rarely has the phrase "knowledge is power" been more true. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities and resources, and ask you to thoroughly review all the information we have gathered for this special PeachByte. In addition to the reports we regularly provide, our partnership with Arrivalist allows us to share new 2019 summary visitation data for Georgia's counties, and to offer an exclusive opportunity to purchase even more detailed county-level arrival information. The data we collect for 2019 will serve as the tourism industry's prepandemic baseline and will be a critical resource as we define our recovery strategies and measure our progress.
The recovery of travel and tourism is inevitable, but with these tools, we can shape the path our recovery takes. By arming ourselves with the data and information we need, we can better serve our visitors and our communities. By knowing where we've been and where we are, and by looking toward what is coming, we can better understand how to move forward.
It's a privilege to learn from and with you as we share Georgia's stories and treasures with the world. I'm immensely grateful for the opportunities I've been given to work alongside our incredible tourism partners and professionals, and I look forward to all those that lay ahead.
Thank you for your unwavering support,
Ashley Barfield, Ph.D Explore Georgia, Director of Tourism Research
