PEACHBYTE July 28, 2020

A Note from the Deputy Commissioner
Explore Georgia Partners,
During a commencement speech in 2005, Apple founder Steve Jobs said that you can only connect the dots of your life looking backwards and that you have to trust that the dots will connect in the future. For most of us, 2020 feels more like a dud than a dot. For me, the chance to lead the team at Explore Georgia is a silver lining during a gloomy year.
I'm excited to be with you. I'm optimistic about our future. I've enjoyed beginning to get to know the Explore Georgia staff during my first week on the job, and while I've been able to connect with a few partners already, I look forward to speaking with more of you soon. Until I can get out to meet you in person and explore your Georgia, I will be planning a virtual listening tour to understand your thoughts about the issues going on in your business and around the state. Your input is critical as we confront this global pandemic together.
Like many of you have done, I've learned throughout my 26-year career in tourism and hospitality that we must remain positive, be patient, and proudly remind ourselves and our staffs that "we got this!" Travel is one of the many victims of the coronavirus. However, the love and excitement people have for travel is not lost. If anything, it will be stronger than ever in the future.
While it's impossible to connect the dots of 2020 looking forward, I trust that it will be clear looking back years later that the resolve of Georgia's tourism industry was unbreakable. Despite these challenging times, you can count on tourism remaining one of the largest industries in Georgia and a key priority for Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
Thank you for all you do,
Mark Jaronski Deputy Commissioner of Tourism Georgia Department of Economic Development

This week, Explore Georgia is launching "Explore Your Georgia," an integrated marketing campaign targeted to residents of Georgia. The campaign's goal is to capture Georgians who are actively planning travel and inspire them to stay in-state for their trip. The campaign is a test to evaluate the effectiveness of travel advertising and the receptiveness of the audience during this time. While we're not in recovery, and that may be a long way off, research shows us Georgians are traveling, taking trips up to 300 miles from their homes.
Responding to traveler sentiment research, the campaign highlights outdoor destinations, beaches, and small and rural towns, where visitors say they'll feel the safest. Georgia is uniquely positioned to respond to these needs, with diverse geography and a wealth of unique destinations waiting to be explored. The campaign is 100% digital, allowing us to quickly pivot to respond to evolving traveler sentiment. The campaign also will be carried through new landing pages on ExploreGeorgia.org, email, and organic social. The test will last four weeks, and if deemed successful, will be continued into the fall.
