1. The latest research: Georgia tourism is on the rise According to the most recent U.S. Travel Association report (September 2014), Georgia saw a strong travel market in 2013. Total domestic and international traveler expenditures in Georgia totaled $25 billion (in current dollars) in 2013, a 4.1 percent increase from 2012, and travelers' spending in Georgia directly supported 247,300 jobs, rising 2.3 percent compared to 2012. 2. Now Available: 2015 Travel Media Marketplace Bid Form Travel Media Marketplace is an annual event hosted by Georgia Tourism to showcase Georgia to travel writers. The event begins in the host city, where journalists visit its tourism assets and taste local cuisine. After the marketplace event, attendees participate on FAM tours around the state. If your community or regional partnership is interested in being considered as the host destination, download the form and submit your bid to Emily Murray at emurray@georgia.org by Friday, Dec. 19, 2014.
3. Register for the 2015 Regional Visitor Information Center Workshop Online registration is now open for the 2015 workshop to be held in Columbus Feb. 25-27. Tourism professionals from Georgia's Visitor Information Centers (VICs) and Regional Visitor Information Centers (RVICs) are invited to explore ways to work together to promote the State of Georgia, be involved in best practice sessions and engage in networking opportunities, and learn about tools available for little or no cost to market and promote your destination. Register online before November 30 and save $25!
4. Mark your calendar: 2015 Georgia On My Mind Days Georgia On My Mind Days at the state Visitor Information Centers are free opportunities for tourism partners to get in front of the traveling public and network with other partners. Download the 2015 schedule, choose dates and locations that will work best for your business, and contact the centers directly for more information about how to participate.
5. Let's talk about where to eat! In an op-ed piece in the Nov. 7-13, 2014, edition of the Atlanta Business Chronicle, "Culinary tourism on the rise, a focus in 2015," Kevin Langston discusses the trend in culinary travel and how Georgia is well-suited to satisfy travelers' appetites.
