The National Park Service says visitation at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Cobb County is up by 140,000 people, to 828,600 through June. Other sites reporting a boost include the Atlanta History Center, the Margaret Mitchell House and the Cyclorama. The Georgia Historical Society, with help from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, set up markers --- some new, some refurbished --- to commemorate important Civil War areas that have been paved over by metro Atlanta's growth or to be more inclusive of women and African-Americans.
