148th Anniversary of the Battle of Resaca Reenactment
During May 1415, 1864, the first major battle of the Atlanta Campaign was fought around the tiny village of Resaca, Georgia. The reenactment will take place May 1920 on the historic Chitwood Farm, a 650acre section of the original battlefield, where some of the heaviest fighting occurred.

Site of the Month
Resaca Confederate Cemetery Shortly after the Battle of Resaca, town resident Miss Mary J. Green and her sister Miss Pyatt Green organized an effort to rebury the Confederate dead, moving them from their crude battlefield burial sites to proper graves in a recognized Resaca Confederate Cemetery.

Events

Dalton's Fort Hill Marker Dedication Fort Hill is one of Georgia's most significant AfricanAmerican Civil War heritage sites. On Thursday, May 3 the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails interpretive marker will be dedicated.

Wartime Stories

Henry McNeal Turner Born in 1834, Henry McNeal Turner of South Carolina was an influential preacher in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Henry was instrumental in organizing the First Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops and later served in the Georgia Legislature.
