The Great Locomotive Chase Part 1
The Great Locomotive Chase, one of the most iconic events of the Civil War, took place in Northwest Georgia from Marietta to Ringgold on April 12, 1862.

Cooper's Iron Works (NRHP) The enormous furnace from the Cooper Iron Works on the Etowah River is all that remains of the pioneer industrial center. Started by Mark Anthony Cooper in the 1830s, the operation was sold to the Confederate government in 1863 to forge munitions. The Cooper Furnace and surrounding town of Etowah were destroyed by the Federal army on May 21, 1864.

The Chickamauga Civil War Show and Sale in Dalton With 250 dealers from all over the country, the annual Chickamauga Civil War show will take place in Dalton February 4 and 5. Artifacts, books and collectables will be on display or for sale. Free events include a lecture by Richard McMurry and music from the 8th Regimental Band.

Helen Dortch Longstreet Georgia-born Helen Dortch Longstreet was the second wife of Gainesville resident, Confederate General James Longstreet. She championed such causes as the environment, civil rights and defended her husband's wartime reputation. She was inducted into the Georgia Women of Achievement in 1994.
