Conquered Banners: Georgia's Civil War Flags
The Georgia Historical Society is pleased to present this 12 month exhibit of rare flags made and carried during the first year of the Civil War. The six beautifullyconserved flags, on loan from the National Park Service, Fort Pulaski National Monument, will be rotated for display every three months throughout 2011.
Site of the Month
Old Fort Jackson Designated a National Historic Landmark, Fort Jackson was constructed in 1808 on the site of a Revolutionary War earthwork and is the oldest brick fortification in Georgia. During the Civil War, the fort served as headquarters for the coastal defenses of Savannah. The ironclad CSS Georgia was scuttled in December 1864 and remains in the river next to the fort.
Attractions
Cyclorama Living History Vignettes Museum consultant and living history interpreter Anthony Knight will portray an important Civil Warera personage.
