War in our Backyards
Created by the Atlanta History Center and designed to complement the History Center's award winning permanent civil war exhibition, the new exhibition War in Our Backyards: Discovering Atlanta 18611865 challenges visitors to consider their personal connections to a war literally fought in Atlanta's backyards.

Site of the Month
Sweetwater Creek Sweetwater Creek State Conservation Area is a 1,986 acre preserve along the banks of Sweetwater Creek in Douglas County. Located within the heavily wooded park are the remains of the New Manchester Mill, an antebellum cloth manufacturer that worked under contract for the Confederate government. On July 9, 1864, the mill was captured and burned by Federal Cavalry under General George Stoneman.
