Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park encompasses the two mountains that the Federal army considered the Gibraltar of Georgia. In June 1864, General Johnston's Confederate army used the hilly terrain as a natural fortification. They were able to hold General Sherman's army at bay for weeks before a flanking maneuver was accomplished to drive Johnston from this position.
