Events
Old Cassville Cemetery Luminaries - The Burning of Cassville Cassville was once a thriving town on the Western and Atlantic Railroad and the seat of Cass County. Cassville also holds the distinction of being one of the very few Georgia towns that would suffer almost total destruction by Federal forces in November 1864 and essentially ceased to exist after the war.

Battle of Griswoldville Commemoration The Battle of Griswoldville was one of the few battles that occurred on Sherman's March to the Sea. The Confederate assault was too little, too late and was easily repulsed by the Federal veterans. The battle will be commemorated November 19, 2011 at the Griswoldville State Historic Site.

Wartime Stories

Kate Cumming Kate Cumming was the archetype for the female Civil War nurse. She worked tirelessly nursing the wounded from battles fought in the war's Western theater. Kate spent the latter half of the war caring for sick and wounded soldiers in hospitals throughout Georgia, from Ringgold to Thomaston.
