SPOTLIGHT ON: NCR Fortune 500 company NCR will relocate its corporate headquarters to Duluth and locate a new manufacturing facility in Columbus, Governor Perdue announced. NCR will create 2,120 jobs in the two facilities. The company last fall created a global Center of Excellence in Peachtree City and co-located its Worldwide Customer Service operations, creating 916 jobs.

Governor Perdue recently announced that telecommunications company Cbeyond will
expand its headquarters in Cobb County. The company will double its operations in Georgia, creating more than 600 jobs. Cbeyond first came
to Georgia in 2000 with only 15 employees and will have more than 1,300 by 2012. Chicken of the Sea is returning its canning
operations to the U.S. with its new facility in Lyons, Governor Perdue announced. The seafood giant will create 200 jobs and invest $20 million in a
200,000-square-foot Toombs County facility. The company plans to begin operations in October and will use Georgia Quick Start's services to train new employees. Global food company General Mills will locate a
new distribution center in Social Circle, investing
$42 million and creating 112 jobs. General Mills
will contract with a third-party logistics provider to staff and run the 1.5-million-square-foot distribution center.

and elected officials in Newfoundland and Labrador in July for the second annual SEUS//CP conference. Attendees will have opportunities to enhance commercial exchanges, promote twoway investment, and encourage technological linkages between provinces and states. Sessions will also focus on key industry sectors including advanced manufacturing, ocean technology and energy. Georgia companies can also participate in a SEUS//CP business matchmaking program to be held in Toronto, Canada, on July 23 & 24 at no additional cost. According to the Kaufman Foundation, Georgia ranked first in the U.S. for entrepreneurial activity.
The state is home to 590 entrepreneurs per 100,000 adults, vaulting Georgia from #3 in 2007 to #1 in 2009. Georgia's Entrepreneur Friendly program helped lay the groundwork for small
business growth in the state, Governor Perdue said in a release. Dawson manufacturer Sprigger's Choice, which
designs and manufactures equipment related to grass sprigging, is working with GDEcD to enhance its web activities. CEO Jesse Grimsley is in the process of completely revamping the company's website after a web optimization consultation with GDECD regional project manager Rebecca O'Neil. "The meeting was really worthwhile and helpful to my business," Grimsley said. Grimsley is also working with the GDEcD International Trade team to expand the company's international markets. Atlanta was host to the 2009 BIO International Convention in May, welcoming more than 14,000 industry professionals in one of Georgia's fastestgrowing industries. Sixty countries and 48 states were represented at the convention, which took place May 18 21. The state hosted a 5,400square-foot pavilion with 32 exhibitors, including companies, research institutions and agencies. At the BIO International Convention, Governor Perdue introduced a groundbreaking research tool for bioscience companies. The first of its kind in the U.S., iResearchGeorgia is an online, free database that combines the research capabilities of multiple public and private universities within a single state. Users of iResearchGeorgia will be able to search and explore published papers, patents, more than 500 faculty profiles and National Institute of Health grants associated with Georgia's brightest researchers from both public and private universities. A new global vaccine partnership and center for drug discovery is coming to Georgia, Governor Perdue announced at the BIO International Convention. The Emory Vaccine Center will collaborate with the Australian Centre for Vaccine Development at the Queensland Institute for Medical Research. The Queensland-U.S. Vaccine Technology Alliance is funded in part by a threeyear grant from the Smart Futures Fund of the Queensland National and International Research Alliance.

Governor Perdue announced that four of Georgia's leading research and health care organizations have joined to create the Global Center for Medical Innovation (GCMI.) The GCMI is the first of its kind in the Southeast and will include a comprehensive medical device prototyping center. The participating institutions are the Georgia Institute of Technology, Saint Joseph's Translational Research Institute, Piedmont Healthcare and the Georgia Research Alliance.
