1 In cooperation with the Georgia Crime Information Center, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs compiles and publishes this report for the Georgia Sheriffs' Association and the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.
2 This figure does not include jails presently at 100% or that would exceed 100% if not for the boarding out of inmates. Since the purpose of this report is to count the total number of inmates housed in county jails, there are no provisions in this report to separately count the number of inmates sent to other county facilities for housing. Rather, each county reports only on the number of inmates held in their facility on the first Thursday of the month. Inmates that are sent to other county jails for housing are counted by the county jail housing those inmates. Since municipalities do not report inmate statistics, any Sheriff that sends inmates to a city jail for housing should count those inmates in their county totals when reporting to GCIC.
The Georgia Crime Information Center prepares this report for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
