DBHDD employee honored with first-ever award

ATLANTA - A Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) employee was recognized for his service and dedication by the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association. Travis Fretwell, Assistant Executive Director & Director of the Office of Prevention Services and Programs received the organization's first-ever Distinguished Service Award during its Fall Training and Education Retreat held October 9-13, in Toccoa, GA. Wayne Bland, Georgia Addiction Counselor's Board President presented the award which reads, "In recognition of his long term commitment to the treatment and welfare of those affected by alcohol and drug addiction in Georgia." Sue Purvis, Executive Director of the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association noted that Fretwell had been chosen by the board
because they believed he was most deserving of their very first award. "I am extremely honored by this," said Fretwell. "It means so much to have a group of colleagues acknowledge your work and commitment to the field in this way. I am truly humbled."
The Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) is a non-profit association dedicated to high standards for professionals who provide addiction counseling. Established in 1980 to provide a statewide association of addiction counselors and other persons interested in addiction, GACA is comprised of a volunteer Board of Directors elected by its membership and a volunteer Certification Board appointed by the Directors with the sole purpose of carrying out the mission of the Association.
