CFPB Announces HMDA File Specifications for 2017 and 2018
On February 17, 2016, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) published the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) file specifications for 2017 and 2018.
For 2017, depository institutions that originated fewer than 25 closed-end loans or fewer than 100 open-end lines of credit secured by a dwelling in the two preceding calendar years will be exempt from reporting requirements. While other changes to the HMDA rule will be effective January 1, 2018, the new small-volume-lender exemption is effective January 1, 2017 (for depository institutions only).
One update to the specifications that warrants attention is the change in file format from a fixed field file to a delimited file format. The CFPB is highlighting this change to provide as much time as possible for systems updates should any need to be made.
The Resources for HMDA Filers page may be viewed here.
