Georgia weather and crops, 2005 June 26

Georgia Crop Weather
Week Ending Date June 26, 2005
WARM, DRY CONDITIONS AID PRODUCERS A relatively warm, dry week aided producers in making excellent progress in fieldwork activities, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service. Isolated showers occurred in most areas. Although rain is needed in some areas, producers were grateful to be able to plant and harvest as much as possible. Soil moisture levels were rated 2 percent very short, 28 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus.
Overall, crops continued to be rated in mostly good to fair conditions. In central Georgia, there were reports that crop conditions have declined due to the recent dry conditions. Soybeans and sorghum planting gained momentum. Producers were able to harvest hay and wheat with few rain interruptions. Producers applied fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides to most of their crops.
County Extension Agents reported an average of 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork. Cantaloupe and watermelon harvest continued. Pumpkin planting neared completion. Other activities included harvesting peaches, preparation for millet planting, and the routine care of livestock and poultry.

DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available.
DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Some very widely scattered showers. Dry in most parts of the county. Corn suffering the most at this point.
DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Wheat harvest in full swing. Many hay producers cutting hay. Getting kind of dry. Corn and grain sorghum could use some rain.
This has been one of our drier weeks in a while. We gotten quite a bit of field work done over the past week.

Drier weather is dominating. Hay operations are in full swing. Received rain Saturday and Sunday night. Moisture is adequate. Most of the wheat has been harvested. There is still a lot of millet and some grain sorghum being planted. Crop conditions declined this week due to extremely dry weather and hot temperatures.
DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Cotton developing slowly, wheat harvest complete, a few soybeans still to be planted. Crops look good.
DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST We received 0.03" of rainfall. Scattered showers helped in some areas, but for the most part, dry!
DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL TSWV averaging about 15%. Weather has been great for harvesting hay but we need rain on tobacco, corn and cotton and peanuts could use a shower. Applying herbicides, insecticides and fungicides on most crops. Good harvest weather. Cantaloupe and watermelon harvest in full swing.
DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
