Georgia Crop Weather
Week Ending Date February 13, 2005
WIDE RANGING TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE STATE Temperatures varied over the State this past week, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service. Low temperatures ranged from the mid-teens in north to the mid-30's in the south. High temperatures reached the high 70's in south Georgia and the low 60's for north Georgia. Soil moisture levels were rated 4 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 28 percent surplus.
Precipitation levels were low in most parts of the State, but there were isolated reports of over 3 inches. The rain and temperatures in these parts of the state brought wet pasture conditions. Heavy hay feeding continued due to poor pasture conditions. Small grain growth, in south Georgia, was stimulated by mild weather. Pasture, vegetable, and wheat conditions were all rated in mostly good or fair condition. However, pasture conditions were still declining.
County Extension Agents reported an average of 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Other activities included soil testing, lime application, burning off pasture and hay fields, other field preparations for spring planting, and routine care of livestock and poultry.
Crop Progress Table February 13, 2005 Data for the table will resume in April 2005.

DISTRICT COMMENTS February 13, 2005
DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST No comments available.
DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL No comments available.
DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available.
DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL No comments available.
DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Lot's of rain! Most areas of the county had 2+ inches in the middle of the week. Small grains and winter grazing need to be topdressed but will have to wait until it drys up some. Heavy hay feeding to livestock continued due to poor pasture conditions.
Conditions in our area are wet, wet! Dairies are having lots of trouble with muddy conditions.
Rainy and cold describes the conditions in the county.
Had about 3 inches of rain this past week--and very cold temperatures.
DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL No comments available.
DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST We received 0.95" of rainfall. Small grain showed increase growth rate. Field preparation for spring plantings.
DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Getting land ready. Applied lime. Burned off pasture and hay fields.
The last three weather fronts passing through the county have not produced much measurable rainfall. We are already 5 to 6 inches short of
precipitation for 2005.
DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST Winter grazing not very good at present, mostly due to cold weather and changing temperatures.
