Georgia weather and crops, 2005 February 13

Georgia Crop Weather
Week Ending Date February 13, 2005
WIDE RANGING TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE STATE Temperatures varied over the State this past week, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service. Low temperatures ranged from the mid-teens in north to the mid-30's in the south. High temperatures reached the high 70's in south Georgia and the low 60's for north Georgia. Soil moisture levels were rated 4 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 28 percent surplus.
Precipitation levels were low in most parts of the State, but there were isolated reports of over 3 inches. The rain and temperatures in these parts of the state brought wet pasture conditions. Heavy hay feeding continued due to poor pasture conditions. Small grain growth, in south Georgia, was stimulated by mild weather. Pasture, vegetable, and wheat conditions were all rated in mostly good or fair condition. However, pasture conditions were still declining.
County Extension Agents reported an average of 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Other activities included soil testing, lime application, burning off pasture and hay fields, other field preparations for spring planting, and routine care of livestock and poultry.

Crop Progress Table February 13, 2005 Data for the table will resume in April 2005.
