Georgia Crop Weather
Week Ending Date November 14, 2004
COOL TEMPERATURES CONTINUED Scattered showers and cooler temperatures prevailed across the State, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service. The additional moisture improved soil moisture levels, small grains, and winter grazing. Soil moisture levels were rated 1 percent poor, 12 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus.
Harvesting of cotton, pecans, and peanuts continued at a rapid pace. Soybean harvest passed the halfway point. Winter wheat emergence progressed nicely with timely rains. Onions were rated in mostly good to fair condition. However, onion transplanting was running behind normal.
County Extension Agents reported an average of 5.0 days suitable for fieldwork. Other activities included defoliating cotton, general farm maintenance, and the routine care of livestock and poultry.

DISTRICT COMMENTS November 14, 2004
DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST No comments available.
DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL No comments available.
DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available.
DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Rains slowed soybean harvest & small grains planting preparations; routine care of livestock & poultry.
DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Showers late in the week and cooler temperatures! Some hay producers still trying to finish their final hay cutting of the year. Small grain and winter grazing planting neared completion.
We have experienced some seasonably cooler days as of late. This has not affected fall grazing.
Harvest continued. Small grains being planted.
Cooler weather arrived in middle Georgia. Winter grazing is doing very good for this time of year.
DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Timely rain good for small grain planting/emergence. Good early season winter pasture grazing, Most peanuts are dug. Lots of late TSWV.
DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST
We received 0.12" of rainfall. Several cotton pickers caught fire. 70% of cotton harvested. Field preparation to plant small grain (rye and wheat).
DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Most growers wrapping up cotton harvest and most are finished with peanuts. Due to four hurricanes, a lot of land will have to be harrowed to be leveled where they bogged or ruts were made due to wet soils. Some hay producers cut and baled their last cutting of hay. Mild weather was a plus. Tobacco growers considering the buyout and not sure what varieties to plant in the greenhouse if they decide to plant next year. No word of contracts yet. Most farmers are deer hunting and fixing equipment.
Some rain Friday afternoon. Rainfall needed for recent small grain plantings. Cotton defoliation and harvest continued. Peanut harvest continued.
DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
