Georgia weather and crops, 2004 January 4

State Georgia Crop Weather
Week Ending Date January 4, 2003
Issue GA-CW0104
Agricultural Summary DECEMBER WEATHER-UNSEASONABLY WARM
The State experienced cooler temperatures and scattered rain the first part of December. The rains slowed field activities. Temperatures fell and produced a heavy frost on several mornings. Cool weather limited winter grazing and small grain growth. Hay feeding continued to increase due to declining pasture conditions. Growers continued to harvest soybeans and cotton. Peanut harvest was virtually complete for the 2003 crop year. Overall pecan poundage was good, but quality was poor. The State experienced frequent showers and rains during the month. Fertilizer was applied to small grains for grazing. Small grain growth was stimulated by the unseasonably warm late December temperatures. Other activities included the routine care of livestock and poultry, harvesting vegetables, and mowing and cultivating cotton stalk.
