BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA DOWN 7 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET DOWN 7 PERCENT
Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending January 24, 2009 was 27.7 million, up 2 percent from the previous week but down 7 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office.
An estimated 33.2 million broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, up 2 percent from the previous week but down 7 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Broiler-type chicks hatched during the week totaled 27.2 million, down slightly from the previous week and down 6 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched in Georgia was 84 percent.
