BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA DOWN 9 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET DOWN 10 PERCENT
Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending December 6, 2008 was 25.7 million, up 7 percent from the previous week, but down 9 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office.
An estimated 30.9 million broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, down 2 percent from the previous week and down 10 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Broiler-type chicks hatched during the week totaled 25.8 million, up 7 percent from the previous week, but down 9 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched in Georgia was 83 percent.
