BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA DOWN 6 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET DOWN 15 PERCENT
Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending October 4, 2008 was 26.1 million, down 2 percent from the previous week and down 6 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office.
An estimated 29.8 million broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, down 7 percent from the previous week and down 15 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Broiler-type chicks hatched during the week totaled 25.4 million, down 5 percent from the previous week and down 7 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched in Georgia was 82 percent.
